Local Swing Band Gets an Upgrade

I have completed my rebuild of onemoretimeswingband.com.

One More Time is a swing band based in Dayton, Ohio.

Excerpt from site:

“When you hire “One More Time”, we will work with you to the best of our ability to provide the music and atmosphere to fit the needs for your event. If it is a Christmas party or holiday dance, we have many great Christmas arrangements from old tunes to new ones. If you need to liven up a party with your favorite college fight song, we can do that at the drop of a hat. We will meet with you before your event to discuss details and eliminate any last minute surprises.”

Bailout Bank Northern Trust is Subject of Discussion of Excess Expenditures

TMZ reports that a bailout bank spends millions after receiving its bailout funds from the government.  Full post here.

TMZ states, “Northern Trust flew hundreds of clients and employees to L.A. and put many of them up at some of the fanciest and priciest hotels in the city. We’re told more than a hundred people were put up at the Beverly Wilshirein Bev Hills, and another hundred stayed at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. Still more stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Marina Del Rey and others at Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica.”

TMZ goes on to report, “Now how’s this for outrage? Northern Trust laid off 450 workers in December, 4% of its workforce.”

“And here’s what’s absolutely amazing: The United States Government flat out gave Northern Trust the $1.6 billion in bailout money, and the bank didn’t even request it! ”

Personally I find this news shocking.  Although I understand the importance of advertising and how much the PGA tour gives back to charities, I do find it appalling that a bank who received funds from the US government can rationalize this lavish gluttonous behavior.  I do still believe that we can climb out from this recession but with big money being wasted like this, my faith in the overseeing of Bailout expenditures wanes.

Kate Winslet Wins Oscar

Kate Wins OscarAlexSablan.info would like to congratulate Kate Winslet on winning her first Oscar. This was Kate’s seventh nomination for the award and beat out Angelina Jolie, Meryle Streep, Melissa Leo, and Anne Hathway for the coveted bald man. Other winner’s on the evening : Heath Ledger, Penelope Cruz, Danny Boyle, A.R. Rahman, and Kunio Katô. For a full listing of awards click here.

I have been a huge fan of Kate Winslet since Sense and Sensibility. This win catapults her to the top of her field and I wish her the best and hope it opens many doors to even greater accomplishments.

I also have to offer my congratulations to the family of Heath Ledger, may this Oscar help to let all his works transcend time.

AlexSablan.info Gets a Mention on Silverlight.net

As trivial as it may seem, I was bored with my studies soAlexsablan.info gets a mention on silverlight.net I decided to google AlexSablan.info to see how far Google has spidered into my site.  Low and Behold I spied a link to Silverlight.net pop up on my screen.  It seems someone has added the site to a del.icio.ous and it has gotten picked up on Silverlight.net.  It’s hard to see but you can click the pic to see the bigger jpeg.  This was a rather ironic discovery, as I was in the middle of learning how to hook up event handlers in silverlight so it gave me a chuckle.

My First Silverlight

Although not exciting as building my own actual application on VS, I have added a deep zoom application to my Artwork page showing a small selection of my projects.  You can view it here.  It was very simple to do. If you have a very basic knowledge of web design you could do it as well.

Just download the Deep Zoom Composer from Microsoft. Then add your files using the self explanatory ui. Then arrange them in the compose mode and hit export. I just exported them to my web folders before publishing and adjusted the HTML page in my exported folder to match my website and bang!!! I have an interesting rich media web experience on my portfolio site. I will adjust it later to include more artwork, but for the time being it is fine. Please leave any feedback you have concerning the deep zoom application I have added.
